Keuka College Rallies to Defeat Penn St.-Berks 71-70

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – Keuka College overcame a 12-point halftime deficit to comeback and defeat Penn St.-Berks 71-70 on Sunday in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game.

The Wolves (3-13, 3-8 NEAC) are on the road on Wednesday for a North Eastern Athletic Conference game at Wells College.

Keuka College was led on Sunday by Dylan Doupe (Phoenix, N.Y. / John C. Birdlebough). The junior had 18 points and also grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Cameron Winston (Freeport, N.Y. / Pomfret School) added 15 points, and Trevor Powell (Manassas, Va. / Osbourn) had 13 in the win. The Wolves were led in rebounding by Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa). The junior collected a game-high 11 rebounds in the win.

Keuka College held an early lead over Penn St.-Berks, but then the Nittany Lions found their touch. Berks would take a 16-15 lead over the Wolves seven minutes in, but Keuka had an answer. The lead bounced back-and-forth for the next four minutes of play. Penn St.-Berks grew a margin halfway through the first quarter with a 12-2 run. Minutes later, the Nittany Lions grew their lead to double-digits, 36-25, with 4:26 left in the first. Berks did their damage from deep in the half as they went 7-15 from behind the three point line. The Nittany Lions led 44-32 at halftime.

Keuka College came out of the locker room looking to get back into the game. They scored the first five points of the half and held Penn St.-Berks off the scoreboard for over four minutes. The Wolves snapped off nine unanswered points following the bucket by Berks. The run was topped by a pair of layups by Cliff Stevens as Keuka College tied the game at 46-46 with 13 minutes left to play. Overall it was a 14-2 run over the first seven minutes to start the half for Keuka. The Nittany Lions responded, regained the lead, and pushed the margin back to 10 points, 58-48, halfway through the first. The margin remained 10 points going into the final six minutes. A 10-2 run by Keuka drew the game back to a two-point margin at 68-66. Following a Berks layup, it was a four-point game going into the final two minutes. With 1:04 left, Cameron Winston drove and drew the defender off the line. The freshman passed it to the corner and found Sam Brown (Syracuse, N.Y. / West Genesee). Brown sank the three to make it a one-point game, 70-69. At the other end of the floor, after working the shot clock, Penn St.-Berks' layup attempt was blocked by Cliff Stevens and the Wolves got the ball. With 14 seconds left, Winston laid the ball in to give Keuka College a 71-70 lead. The Nittany Lions' final attempt, a three pointer, missed. For the second game in a row, Keuka College would win a one-point game. The Wolves defeated Penn St.-Berks 71-70.
