SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 27, 2017) – Despite a slow start, the Sewanee men's basketball team rallied in the second half for a 62-50 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps, Friday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Tigers moved into second place in the SAA standings. Sewanee is now 12-6 overall and 5-3 in league action. Centre, who defeated Birmingham-Southern Friday, is 10-7 overall and 6-2 in conference action.
Throughout the first half, Millsaps played well. The Majors made 51.9 percent of their first-half shots which help Millsaps lead by six, 31-25, at halftime.
Out of the locker, Sewanee responded. The Tigers used a 23-5 run over the first 12 minutes to take command. Even after Millsaps cut the Sewanee lead to eight, 48-40, Sewanee quickly stretched its advantage to as much as 19 by the 3:42 mark.
Overall, Sewanee made 46 percent of its attempts. The Tiger defense also stepped up, limiting Millsaps to a 7-for-29 effort in the second half.
Individually, Jorden Williams finished with 14 points and four rebounds. He was joined in double figures by Brody Stone, who added another double-double (17 points, 14 rebounds), and Adrian Thomas, who scored 12 points.
Senior Clay Born also played well with eight points and eight rebounds.
Buck Blanz led the Majors with 14 points and six rebounds.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a key 3:00 p.m. contest against BSC, Sunday.
