POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Keuka College Men's Basketball team fell to Johnson State in the consolation game of the Vassar Tip-Off Tournament by the score of 83-75 on Saturday afternoon.
Keuka College (0-3) travels to Alfred University on Tuesday for their final tune-up before North Eastern Athletic Conference play starts on November 30.
The Wolves were led by Cameron Winston (Freeport, N.Y. / Pomfret School) with 18 points off the bench. Also in double-digits were Cliff Stevens (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa) and Dylan Doupe (Phoenix, N.Y. / John C. Birdlebough). Each scored 15 points. Doupe added five rebounds in the game and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Matt Estes (Watkins Glen, N.Y. / Watkins Glen) made his first career start on Saturday and drained his first shot of the day. His three pointer gave the Green and Gold an early 3-2 lead. That would be the only lead of the day for the Wolves. The Badgers went on a 14-0 run in the middle of the half to grow their lead to 19 points, 34-15. Keuka College closed the half on a 10-0 run of their own, but trailed Johnson State 42-31 at the half.
Keuka College fought to stay in the game in the second half. Johnson State grew their lead up to 18 points, 71-53, but the Wolves cut the margin in half with a 9-0 over just two minutes of action. The Badgers pushed their lead to back to double-digits. Keuka made a late run, narrowing the game to six points, 79-73 following a pair of Stevens free throws, but Johnson State held on for the 83-75 victory over Keuka College.
