Desgain Scores his 1,000 career point as the WildCats Take down the Eagles

BRIDGEWATER, VA –Zach Desgain scored his 1,000th point and helped the Randolph College men's basketball team defeat Bridgewater College on the road 68-57 on Saturday.  The senior hit a three at the end of the half to help the WildCats win the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

The 'Cats struggled to score the ball as a team early on, only scoring seven points in the first ten minutes of the game.  Desgain gave Randolph a needed lift, scoring nine of the team's first eleven points. The WildCats ODAC leading team defense kept the game within striking distance.

With just over the six minutes left in the first half the pace picked up for both teams.   Jason Eddie hit a three pointer, off a Desgain assist, from the left corner that ignited the 'Cats' offense. Both teams traded basket for basket from the six-minute mark to the one-minute mark of the half. One of the main beneficiaries from this flurry of offense was Randolph's Seth Wimbish, who scored 10 straight points for Randolph in 2 minutes to bring the game score to a 27-27stalemate.

Ryan Fields made a layup with 46-seconds left in the half to give the WildCats their first lead since the first minute of the game. On the next possession Randolph forced a Bridgewater turnover and got the ball back with seven seconds left in the half, and a chance to increase their lead.

Randolph inbounded the ball to Desgain who rushed the ball up the court and pulled up for a tough, well contested, deep three pointer on the left the wing as the half expired, which he banked in.  This shot gave the 'Cats a five point, 32-27, lead going into the half and gave Desgain his 1000th career point at Randolph College.  It made him just the fourth player in program history to achieve this historic feat.

In the second half Randolph scored on its first possession off a Rhyle Scott jump shot. Randolph went on a dry spell for the next three minutes.  The Eagles took advantage of this by scoring five straight points, off a Kevin Saylor three-pointer and an Efe Balfour jump shot.  The score was now 34-32 with the 'Cats clinging to a slight lead.

The WildCats then went on a run that they would never look back from.  The run was jumpstarted by Reid Jacoby who scored five straight points for Randolph.  Wimbish then continued his hot streak from the end of the first half and scored eight-straight points, including two threes, to give the Wildcats a fourteen point lead with ten minutes to go.

For the rest of the second half both teams traded baskets as Bridgewater tried to make a run, but the 'Cats stalwart defense never allowed the Eagles to bring their lead to fewer than ten points.

Wimbish led Randolph with 21 points, showcasing his sharp shooting, hitting 4-8 from downtown. Desgain finished with 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Fields chipped in 11 points as well.  Logan Seacrist led the Eagles (6-13 overall, 5-6 ODAC) with 18 points.

Randolph (11-10, 5-7) returns home on Wednesday at 7 p.m., taking on cross-town rival Lynchburg College at the RAD Center.
