Lake Forest Cannot Quite Complete Comeback at Chicago

Freshman forward Danny Sotos and junior forward Jim Schick tied for game-high honors with 17 points apiece but the Foresters were defeated 67-61 at the University of Chicago Tuesday night.

Sotos shot 8-for-15 in the contest and scored 13 of his points in the second half, including eight during a 14-1 run that almost completely erased the Maroons' 14-point lead.

After Lake Forest freshman guard Jordan Moran's layup with 8:15 remaining made the score 47-46 in favor of Chicago, the home team scored the game's next seven points to regain a more comfortable advantage. A Sotos three-pointer and a basket by Schick trimmed the margin to four points (59-55) with two minutes remaining but the Foresters would get no closer. Chicago connected on six of eight free throws in the final 75 second to close out the victory.

Schick connected on eight of 10 field goal attempts on the night and led all players in the contest with 13 rebounds for his second double-double in as many games this season.

Sophomore guard Danny Nikitas was the only other Forester in double figures with 10 points.

Lake Forest shot 42 percent from the floor while the Maroons knocked down just 39 percent of their field goal attempts. The Foresters had a slight 40-39 edge in rebounds and both teams committed 10 turnovers. Chicago had a significant advantage at the free throw line, however, connecting on 21 of 32 attempts while the visitors made just four of eight.

The loss drops the Foresters' record on the season to 0-2. Chicago evened its mark at 1-1.

Lake Forest will begin Midwest Conference play at home on Saturday against Cornell College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
