Men's Basketball Cruises Past Wheelock 92-58

NEWTON, Mass. (12/8/15) – The Lasell College men's basketball team sailed past the visiting Wildcats of Wheelock College 92-58 Tuesday evening in the Athletic Center Gymnasium. With the win, their fifth straight, the Lasers climb to 5-3 overall while the Wildcats sink to 1-5 this season.

Senior forward Logan Liberty (Duxbury, Vt.) led the Lasers with 16 points with six rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. Junior guard Armin Omanovic (Wilkesboro, N.C.) followed with 14 points, while senior guard Richard O'Brien (Manchester, N.H.) rounded out double-digit scoring for the starters with 12 points with an additional five assists. Senior forward Pat Marchand (Cranston, R.I.) was just short of a double-double with eight points and nine rebounds, seven boards coming from the defensive end.

Junior forward Anthony Williams (White Plains, N.Y.) was the only Wildcat to register double-digit scoring with a game-best 18 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Sophomore guard Lawrence Christmas (Garner, N.C.) came off the bench to score seven points, while freshman guard Kadeem Apply (Lauderdale Lakes, Fla.) and freshman forward Dejuan Rodriguez (New Britain, Conn.) netted six points apiece. 

The Lasers came out with a commanding 15-5 run in the first five and used a torrid 69.7% shooting throughout half one to outscore the Wildcats 54-27. With 15 minutes left to go in regulation, the Lasers scored 13 unanswered points on the visitors to secure their largest lead of the game, 76-39, en route to a 92-58 final.

Overall, the Lasers held a 55.9% (38-68) to just 35.5% (22-62) advantage in shots from the floor, and made 9-of-23 buckets from downtown compared to Wheelock's' 3-of-20. Lasell dominated the glass with 51 total rebounds, netting 20 points from second-chance opportunities. The Lasers' bench also saw a combined 92 minutes played, who in turn grabbed 37 of Lasell's season-high 92 points.

Both teams will return to action on Thursday, December 10 at 7:00 p.m. The Lasers will hit the road to Norwich University for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference affair, while the Wildcats welcome Emerson College in a local cross-city match.
