The City College of New York men's basketball team defeated York 67-65 at College Courts in Jamaica, New York.
York (2-6, 0-2 CUNYAC) took the lead first, but the Beavers (4-2, 1-1 CUNYAC) were not far behind. City took their first lead of the game going up 15-13, but York quickly tied it back up 15-15. The first half contained a lot of back-and-forth action. The score was tied five times and the lead changed three times during the first half. Both teams went back-and-forth down the court adding points to look for the lead.
City shot .387 from the field in the first half, while York shot .419. Both teams scored 13 points off of turnovers during the first half. City went into the locker room with a 33-31 lead.
The two-point lead going into the second half would ultimately be the deciding factor for the victory. The second half mirrored the first half as both teams battled back-and-forth for their conference victory. The Beavers shot .478 from the field in the second half, while they held York to a .394 shooting percentage.
With the team lead volleying back and forth between conference foes and time dwindling down, the Beavers knew they had to regain the lead in order to win the game. York tied the game with a minute left, but fouled Khalil Hamer with 10 seconds remaining. Hamer made both free throws that gave CCNY the 67-65 victory.
David Solano led the Beavers with 18 points and Mark Richards recorded 14. Robbie Dionisio grabbed nine rebounds, while Hamer tallied eight. Hamer dished out a team-high 13 assists in the team victory.
The Beavers return home to Nat Holman Gymnasium on Tuesday, December 8 to face John Jay at 8 p.m. Before the game, City is holding a Hall of Fame event.
