GREENSBURG, Pa.- The Pitt-Bradford men's basketball team took on Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Pitt-Greensburg in the SOPA Hoops Saturday at Chambers Hall Gymnasium.
Pitt-Bradford (10-8, 7-4) was led by senior Tyler Fantaskey who had a team-high 17 points and Senior Keith Burgess who contributed 16 points for the Panthers. Sophomore Zach Smith came away with a double-double, recording 11 points and pulling in 10 rebounds.
Pitt-Greensburg (9-9, 9-2) had scorers with 17 points apiece in Rocco Contristano, Jerell Figueroa and Marcus Thomas. Thomas also came away with 10 rebounds recording a double-double for the Bobcats.
The Panthers started the game off trading buckets with the Bobcats until the Panthers were able to extend their lead to 26-19 on a layup by senior Keith Burgess at the 6:34 mark.
Pitt-Bradford was able to control the lead in the first half of the game and had its lead up to seven points after Fantaskey hit a three-pointer with 3:48 left in the half.
Pitt-Greensburg responded by putting together a run of their own late in the first half. The Bobcats cut the lead down to a single point after a three-point field goal by Jerell Figueroa with seven seconds remaining in the half. Pitt-Bradford went into the locker room leading, 36-35.
The Panthers went on to control the majority of the second half responding to Pitt-Greensburg's made buckets, however, Pitt-Bradford couldn't hold off the Bobcats as they reclaimed the lead from the Panthers, 61-60 with 5:46 remaining.
Pitt-Bradford had a chance to cut the 69-66 deficit down to one point with Burgess at the line with 25 seconds remaining. However, Burgess missed the front end of the one-and-one and the Panthers were unable to grab the rebound.
The Panthers were forced to foul, sending the Bobcats to the line where they converted both free-throw attempts sealing the victory.
Pitt-Bradford coach Britt Moore said, "It was back and forth all night and they made some timely shots."
The Panthers will travel to Hilbert College Wednesday night to face the Hawks. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
