Thomas More Defeats Waynesburg, 92-82, in Overtime

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – Thomas More College men's basketball team needed overtime to defeat Waynesburg University, 92-82, today (Saturday, January 24, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the win, the Saints improve to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the PAC.  With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-9 overall and 5-4 in the PAC.

Waynesburg jumped out to an early 13-9 lead when Jason Propst made a lay-up with 15:29 to play in the first half.  Thomas More answered with a 20-13 run to take a 29-26 lead when senior forward Jalen Clark (Frankfort, Ky./Western Hills) made a lay-up with 5:10 to play in the half.  Waynesburg used a 4-0 to retake the lead at 30-29 with 4:25 to play in the first half when Tyler Miller made two free-throws.  The Saints responded with a 7-2 run to build a 36-32 lead with 1:54 to play in the opening half when freshman guard Daniel Williams (Louisville, Ky./Jeffersonville) made a jumper.  DJ Ritchie made two free-throws with 30-seconds in the in the half to cap a Yellow Jacket 4-0 run to tie the game at 36-36 at halftime.

Thomas More opened the second half on a 19-7 run to build a 55-43 lead with 12:05 to play in the second half when sophomore guard/forward Nate McGovney (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) made a lay-up.  Waynesburg answered with a 29-16 run capped by a lay-up by Kenny Klase to give the Yellow Jackets a 72-71 lead with 16-seconds to play in regulation.  Clark made one-of-two free-throws with two-seconds to play in regulation to force overtime at 72-72.

Thomas More out-scored Waynesburg, 20-10, in overtime to earn the 92-82 victory.

Senior guard Drew Mumford (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) led all scorers with 24 points.  He was joined in double-figures by McGovney with 21 points, Williams with 15, Clark with 12 and sophomore guard Drew Mays (Union, Ky./Ryle) with 11 points.  McGovney led the team on the boards with six rebounds, while Mumford led the team in assists with five.

Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (January 28) when it hosts Grove City College at 7:30 p.m. at the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
