ROME, Ga. -- The Berry College men's basketball team fought hard the second half, but fell to Maryville College, 78-61, on Saturday.
The loss dropped the Vikings to 3-5 overall and the Scots moved to 4-3 overall.
Nick Marder led Berry, scoring 16 points on 5-9 shooting. All of Marder's points came in the second half. Owen Jacobs netted 10 points for the home team.
Lee McCloud totaled 6 rebounds and Zack Chaykowsky added eight points for BC.
The Scots led 46-24 at halftime. The Scots led by as many as 24 points in the game. Chaykowsky made a layup with 1:54 left to cut the deficit to 70-61, but the Vikings got no closer.
Spencer Shoffner earned 18 points and Christian Ford added 17 points for the Scots.
"I was really disappointed with our effort in the first half," said Berry Head Coach Jeff Rogers. "We came out and played a lot of individual basketball instead of as a team. We talked at half time about what we needed to do to have success, and I was really pleased with the effort in the second half. We need consistent effort and execution in order to get where we are trying to go."
