Jan. 3 – BEREA, Ohio – The Bethany College men's basketball (6-6) dropped a 77-58 decision to Baldwin Wallace University in their first game of the 2015 calendar year on Saturday afternoon in Berea.

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on a 24-10 run over the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Bison would respond with a late-half surge. Down 35-24 with 4:05 to play in the frame, Bethany would outscore Baldwin Wallace 8-2, cutting the BW lead to just five at the halftime break, 37-32. Four different Bethany players would score a hoop in the run, capped by a Hayden Cunningham (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) steal and fast-break score for the half's final basket.

The first half was fueled by a ten-point effort from freshman Andres Herrero (Guadalajara, Spain) who scored 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field. Freshman Calique Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Obama Academy) also played well, scoring six points off the bench in the frame.

The Green & White could not overcome a second-half surge by Baldwin Wallace as they were held to 26 points in the frame on just 33 percent shooting en route to the 19-point decision.

The Bethany bench, which produced their highest output of the season, keyed the second-half scoring for the Bison. Jones and junior Darrian Bruster (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Central Catholic) combined for 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting. The reserves finished the game with 30 of the team's 58 points.

Offensively in the contest, Jones was the catalyst, as the freshman guard finished with a career-high 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Bruster also finished in double figures, notching 12 points in the game. Herrero finished with ten while senior Delonte' Joyce (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) added eight.

Defensively, the Bison collected double-digit steals for the sixth time this season, finishing with 12. Jones once again led the way, totaling a career-high three, while Joyce, the Presidents' Athletic Conference steals leader, and sophomore Pedro Lalor (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) finished with two each.

The Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, January 7 as they travel to Crestview Hills, Kentucky to take on Thomas More College in a PAC matchup. The game is scheduled to follow the women's contest which starts at 5:30 p.m.
