John Carroll University surpasses Blue Devils at St. Norbert tournament

DEPERE (December 30, 2014) - UW-Stout held as much as an 18 point lead in the first half, but John Carroll University caught the Blue Devils and went on to hand the Blue Devils am 87-79 defeat at the St. Norbert College Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament Monday.

Springboarding off Brett Ahsenmacher 's (So, Annandale, Minn) 10 point outburst over the first 2-minutes, 36-seconds of the game, Stout (2-8) jumped out to a 13-5 lead, then ran that up as much as 18 points, midway through the first half. Stout used the 3-point arc to push their lead, making seven first half 3-pointers. Mac Oreskovic (Fr, Antigo) and Isaac Elliott (Fr, Stevens Point) each dropped in a pair of treys, and Ahsenmacher,  John Keefe (Fr, Medford) and Sam Ortmann (Fr, Buffalo, Minn) each made one.

Stout went cold from the field in the second half, hitting only 29.2 percent of their shots from the floor (10-34). Stout finished the game shooting 38.2 percent (29-76).

John Carroll (6-2) used an 11-1 run to close the first half to pull to within 49-41 at halfime, and caught the Blue Devils midway through the second half and took the lead for good with 8:53 remaining. Danny Wollack scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half and Jake Hollinger scored 10 points in each half. John Carroll outscored Stout, 46-30, in the second half.

Ahsenmacher led all scorers with a career- best 22 points, Ortmann scored a career-best 10 points and dished off a career-high six assists. Reggie Kujak (Jr, Blair) pulled down a career-best 10 rebounds.

John Carroll was led by Hollinger with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Wallack finished with 15 points. Doug Caputo notched a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Tony Vuyanich had 10 points.

Stout will meet St. Scholastica in the consolation game, Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 5 p.m.The Saints lost to host St. Norbert, 82-55.
