BROOKLYN, N.Y.— York College senior guard Omar St. John tied a school record for points in a game with 46 to lead the Cardinals to an 85-80 win over Medgar Evers College Tuesday night.

St. John tied the record of his former teammate, Michael Woods, who scored 46 last season in win over Hunter College on February 18, 2014.  It took 27 years for Woods to break the previous school record, but just a few months for St. John to tie Woods' mark.

When Woods set the record last year, York won in blowout fashion, but tonight the Cardinals needed just about all of St. John's points to pull out the win in the City University of New York Athletic Conference opener.  St. John—a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American—hoisted up 29 shots from the field, making 16 of them, including five three-pointers.  He was also an efficient, 9-of-11 from the free throw line.

The Cardinals also got contributions from senior forward Jaron Williams, who finished with a double-double (11 points, 11 boards) and Cyril Reid, who added 13 points and five rebounds.

Medgar Evers was led by Reynaldo Eloy with 20 points and Mark Hudson with 16.

York improves to 2-1, 1-0 CUNYAC, while the Cougars drop to 1-4, 0-1 CUNYAC.

The Cardinals will be back in action this Saturday when they visit the University of Rochester at 5 p.m.  Video, audio and live stats are available by accessing the York gameday coverage page.
