MENOMONIE (January 29, 2014) - Jay Higgins (Sr, Maple Grove, Minn) scored a career high 15 points and the Blue Devils shot 64 percent in the second half, earning them a 67-48 victory over UW-River Falls.
The Falcons used four early three point field goals, three by Jay Sewer, to pull out to a 21-9 lead with 12:46 remaining in the first. Stout then went on a 12-0 run over the next 7:16, spurred by four points each from Alex Oman (Sr, Lake Elmo, Minn) and Jay Higgins, to tie the game 21-21. After a couple of lead changes Stout took a 27-26 lead into the break.
River Falls opened the second half with a three pointer from Ben Gresmer to take a 29-27 lead. That was the last time the Falcons would lead in the game as an Aaron Jenny (Sr, Spicer, Minn) free throw and jumper gave the Blue Devils a 30-29 lead.
Jimmy Whitehead (Sr, La Crosse) and Higgins each scored nine points in the second half to help the Blue Devils pull away, before Reggie Kujak (So, Blair) celebrated his birthday by finishing the scoring off with an alley oop dunk off of a pass from AJ Dubek (Jr, Spooner). Whitehead finished the game with 13 points. Oman and Jenny each finished with nine points for Stout.
Adam Wadzinski (Sr, Verona) did a little celebrating of his own on his birthday, tying for the team lead in assists (3), and rebounds (6).
River Falls had three players in double figures on the evening. Ollie White lead the Falcons with 15 points and six rebounds, followed by Jay Sewer with 13 points and seven assists and Ben Gresmer with 12 points.
Stout shot 52.9 percent for the game compared to 38.3 percent for River Falls. The Blue Devils also outrebounded the Falcons 40-21 for the game.
