First Half Run Key As Kenyon Downs Albion

GAMBIER, Ohio – Kenyon College used a 13-2 run to build a double-digit lead and it went on to score a 76-71 victory over Albion College in a non-league men's basketball game.

Ryan Watson and Jordan Herron scored 3-point baskets to give Albion a 10-9 lead five minutes into the game. Brien Comey capped Kenyon's  run with an old-fashioned three-point play and a layup as the Lords held a 22-12 lead midway through the first half.

Albion did not get closer than three the rest of the way. Herron sank five free throws and Eric Evans tacked on a layup as the Britons trimmed the deficit to 28-25 with 4 ½ minutes left in the first half. The Britons shot 39 percent from the field in the first half and they settled for a 36-30 deficit at halftime.

Ikenna Nwadibia and Jonathan Amador scored baskets in the paint on Kenyon's first two possessions of the second half as the margin expanded to 10. Kenyon led by as many as 17 in the second half, but Albion closed the game on a 15-3 run. Evans scored eight of his 17 points in the final minute of the contest.

Herron produced season-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds to complete his second double-double of the season, while Travell Oakes matched his career-high of 16 points by making 5-of-6 shots from the field.

All five Kenyon starters scored in double figures. Nwadibia led the way with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Brian Lebowitz contributed 13 points, while Amador, John Bray, and Julian Pavlin produced 12 points each.

Albion, 5-3 on the season, travels to Earlham (Ind.) Tuesday for a 7 o'clock game.
