NYU 64 York (NY) 61

The New York University men's basketball team fought hard to maintain its perfect record on Sunday afternoon, December 8, at the Coles Sports Center in Manhattan, earning the 64-61 victory over York College (NY).

The Violets (6-0) were able to stave off a tough Cardinals (3-5) team and come back from a nine-point defecit to earn the victory.

Leading NYU once again was sophomore forward Evan Kupferberg. The Boca Raton, FL, native scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to notch his second straight double-double, and third of the season.

HIGHLIGHTS:

- The Violets continued to dominate on the boards, outrebounding York 46-28.

- NYU had yet another solid game in the low post, outscoring the Cardinals 44-18 in the paint.

- Sophomore forward Costis Gontikas scored 12 points -- none more important than a fast break dunk to put the Violets ahead for good with 1:14 left in regulation -- while pulling down eight rebounds.

- Senior co-captain guard Ryan Tana scored nine points with five rebounds and three assists.

- Junior forward Adam Xu scored eight points with two boards.

- Sophomore point guard Max Ralby dished out seven assists with five rebounds as well.

"It was a great effort in a tight ball game," said NYU Head Coach Joe Nesci. "We made the plays at the end that we needed to make in order to pull out the win."

The Violets will be back on the court when they travel to Hoboken, NJ, on Tuesday, December 10. NYU is scheduled to tip off against Stevens Tech (3-3) at 7:00 pm.
