Hot-shooting Johnnies topple Macalester

St. John's knocked down 10-of-21 from three-point territory and went on to gain an 89-57 win over Macalester in Collegeville.  The Johnnies led 46-23 at halftime and for the game shot 59% from the floor.

 

Forward Sam Marshall (Sr., Sun Prairie, Wis.) made seven of his 13 shots and finished with 20 points to lead the Scots.  He also accounted for four of his team's eight steals.

 

Justin Wasik (Jr., Chicago, Ill. / Maine South) added nine points and three assists, and Dylan Kilgour (Fy., La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) had nine points and four assists.  Andrew Matsumoto (Sr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) contributed eight points and a couple steals.

 

Mitchell Kuck scored 18 of his game-high 21 points in the first half and also dished out four assists for the Jonnies.  Jack Wittenborg added 13 points and Kevin McKenzie had five assists.

 

Macalester drops to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the MIAC, while SJU is 2-4 overall, 2-2 in the conference.

 

The Scots are off for finals and the Holiday break until returning to action Dec. 30 with a non-conference home game with Lakeland (Wis.).  Mac returns to league play Jan. 2 at home against Hamline.
