Reeves Posts Second Double-Double but Beavers Edged by Golden Eagles

PATCHOGUE – Brandon Reeves posted his first ever 15 point, 15 rebound performance but a hard fought nonconference battle did not go in the Beavers favor as the City College of New York men's basketball team (3-1) fell for the first time in the 2012-13 campaign against St. Joseph's College (1-2), 81-73, on Saturday evening at Danzi Athletic Center.

Reeves turned in his second double-double of the season and added two blocks and one steal while Anthony Lewis, last week's City University of New York Athletic Conference / Applebee's Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week, posted a team-high 20 points on 8-for-16 shooting and added nine rebounds, six offensive, one block and one steal. Terence Johnston and Guilherme Brodt added 10 points apiece off of the bench.

As has been the case thus far this season, the Beavers did not disappoint on the offensive glass, posting a season-high 25 offensive rebounds en route to outrebounding the Golden Eagles, 53-41, but 27 turnovers and 2-for-17 shooting from three-point range were too much to overcome for CCNY.

City College also posted season-highs with seven blocks and 12 steals (tying Nov. 20 game vs. Maritime). The most surprising stat of the night and one that is an encouraging sign for second year head coach Tom Green and his staff is the high percentage the Beavers shot from the free throw line. CCNY made 21 of its 24 free throw attempts, a season high in both, good for 88 percent from the charity stripe.

Co-captain Israel Vickers scored eight points and added five assists and a game-high five steals in the first game of his senior season.

The 73 points for City College marked the second time this season that the Beavers surpassed the 72-point mark in 2012-13 after doing so just twice last season.

The Beavers begin CUNYAC play on Tuesday evening as CCNY faces John Jay College at 7 PM in the Doghouse on the campus of the Bloodhounds.
