MADISON, N.J. (January 21, 2012) – Catholic (15-3, 5-2 Landmark) used a 22-4 run over a five minute span in the second frame to help get past the Rangers, 75-61 in Baldwin Gym this afternoon. Senior Asmar Capers (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) scored 21 of his game-high 24 points in the final 20 minutes to lead the Ranger offense.

Drew (4-14, 2-5 Landmark) had only one other player in double-figures as sophomore John Ford (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) chipped in 10 points to go along with six rebounds. Senior Dara Mc Keon (Dunboynne, Ireland/St. Peter's College) led the Rangers on the glass with nine rebounds and added nine points of his own.

The Catholic attack was led by the superb guard play of junior Shawn Holmes who poured in a team-high 21 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 effort from the free throw line. Sophomore center Pete Schramm provided a spark of the bench with 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting.

The lead changed hands six times in the first half of play with neither team taking control of the game. The Cardinals took a 31-27 lead into the locker room at the half thanks in part to freshman Steve Limberiou who had 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting in the first frame.

The Rangers opened up the second half of play taking control with a little over 16 minutes to go in the game. In the next three minutes of action the Rangers built a seven-point advantage thanks to five points by Capers and layups by Jason Chornyei (Westerly, R.I./Cheshire Academy) and Terrell Brown (Camden, N.J./Woodrow Wilson).

The Cardinals however marched right back, scoring the next eight points of the game to take the lead for good with 11:52 remaining. The Cardinals then went on a 15-2 scoring spurt, running their lead up to a game-high 13 points with 4:49 left in the contest.

Both teams were outstanding from the charity stripe with the Cardinals going 15-for-17 and the Rangers making all but one, going 12-for-13.

With five of the next seven games occurring in Baldwin Gym, the Rangers will return to the hardwood on Friday at home for a conference matchup with Juniata. The men will be the second game of the Landmark doubleheader with the tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
