CUA vaults into first place tie with fourth straight win

MADISON, N.J. - CUA moved into a tie for first place in the Landmark Conference by capturing its fourth straight win on Saturday with a 75-61 win over Drew.  The Cardinals were led in scoring by Shawn Holmes with 21 points (6-14) and Steve Limberiou with 16 points (7-15).

CUA led in the first half until Asmar Capers' 3-pointer at the 11:58 mark tied things at 11.

The Cardinals went back on top with five minutes left on the clock when Limberiou nailed a 3-pointer to give CUA a 25-23 lead.

Later, Holmes' basket just before the half sent the Cardinals into the locker room with a 31-27 advantage.

CUA trailed in the second half until Pete Schramm's layup with 11:52 to play put the Cardinals in front 46-45. 

That ignited a 14-2 run that spanned over six minutes and put the Cardinals in control, by a 60-47 count.

The lead grew to 14 on Holmes' trifecta with 3:57 on the clock, and the junior guard went a perfect 4 of 4 at the foul line down the stretch to vault CUA into a tie for first place.

Schramm provided a huge spark off the bench with 12 points on 5 of 7 shooting, with Darrell Carroll adding seven.

The Cardinals shot 45.9% from the floor and did a nice job at the free throw line, hitting 15 of 17 attempts (93.3-percent).  They also outscored Drew 32-20 in the paint and finished with a very impressive three turnovers.

Capers led the home team with 24 points, while John Ford scored 10 and Dara McKeon added nine.

CUA hits the court again on Friday when the Cardinals play host to Scranton inside the DuFour Center.  Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m
