Addison Has 38 As Hardin-Simmons Beats Hanover

LAS VEGAS — Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball received 38 points from senior guard Matt Addison and the Cowboys pulled away late from Hanover en route to an 83-74 win at the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Resort in Las Vegas.

Addison, who was playing through an illness and only played 28 minutes, took over for the Cowboys. HSU trailed 52-47 with 14:06 to play but Addison hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give HSU a 53-52 lead with 13:16 to play. Hanover scored to retake the lead, the 18th lead change of the game. Terrance Booker countered with a 3-pointer and HSU took the lead for good at the 11:25 mark and the Cowboys never trailed again.

In the first half, the teams battled back and forth throughout and no one led by no more than four points until late in the half. Hanover used a 10-4 run to take a 44-36 lead at halftime.

HSU came out of the locker room and scored the first five points of the second half to get back within three points. The game had 19 lead changes and five ties.

The Cowboys hit 16-of-17 free throws on the day including a 9-for-9 performance by Addison. Hanover was 15-for-16 at the line and both teams made nine 3-pointers. Addison had five 3-pointers in the game and was 12-for-18 from the field.

George Nelson, who was also battling an illness, had 16 points and eight rebounds for the Cowboys. Drake Hendricks had 15 off the bench for Hanover and Mike Case and Tim Bass each had 14 points.

The Cowboys are now 9-1 on the year and will return to ASC play on Thursday at Louisiana College. Hanover fell to 7-3 on the year.
