Jersey City, NJ- The Men's Cougars Basketball team lost to New Jersey City University 99-79 on Tuesday Nov 22, 2011. The Gothic Knights improved their record to 3-0 while the Cougars dropped to 2-2.
It was exactly a year ago, when the Cougars came back down by 29pts, to defeat NJCU 77-74 at MEC. Turn the calendar to this season, and NJCU would avenge their loss. MEC never had the lead in the 1st half but did tie the score twice. NJCU largest lead in the half was 14. MEC in the 1st half, was led by Junior Jarrel Deare. Deare scored 12pts and grabbed 2 rebounds. The team shot 34.5% from the field, 22.2% from 3pt. range, and 87.5% from the free throw line. NJCU shot 59.4% from the field, 44.4% from 3pt. range, and 80% from the free throw line.
The 2nd half was a mirror image of the 1st half. NJCU never gave up the lead, ahead by as much as 22. MEC in the half was led by Winston Douglas, who scored 18pts and grabbed 12 rebounds. Jovan Deare scored 12pts.
MEC in the half shot 36.1% from the field, 22.2% from 3pt. range, and 68.2% from the free throw line. NJCU shot 45.5% from the field, 50% from 3pt. range, 68% from the free throw line.
In the loss, MEC was led by Winston Douglas who scored a game high 24pts, grabbed 13 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and 4 steals. The Deare's each scored 16pts. Jovan grabbed 4 rebounds, tallied 2 assists, 4 blocks, and 2 steals. Jarrel grabbed 5 rebounds, tallied an assist, and a steal.
NJCU was led by Walik Albright who scored 17pts.
MEC will be back in action on Saturday Nov. 26, 2011 when they play Gallaudet University Bison at 6pm. It is part of the GU Holiday Tournament at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C.
