ROSEMONT, Pa. - The Rosemont College Men's Basketball team started slowly, but built momentum and staved off the Chargers from Lancaster Bible College this evening by a final score of 61-47. The game was the home opener for the Ravens and the win was their first of the young season (1-1). Lancaster Bible dropped to 0-2 with the defeat.
In the first 10 minutes of the first half the lead changed hands four times and with 9:11 remaining in the stanza the Chargers held a 15-14 lead. A jumper from junior Derrick Carter (Millville, NJ) put the Ravens ahead 16-15 with 8:54 left in the half, and the home side would not trail after that. The Ravens went on an 18-3 run over an elapsed time of 8:33 to take a 32-18 lead late in the half, eventually settling for an 11-point lead of 32-21 at the intermission.
In the second half the Chargers could get no closer than within seven points of the lead, trailing Rosemont 38-31 with 13:50 left. From that point the Ravens found another gear and pulled away from the visitors, leading by as many as 19 points at 55-36 with 7:47 remaining. The Chargers never seriously threatened the Raven's lead for the rest of the game.
Rosemont had three players score in double-figures. Carter led the pack with 13 points. Senior Harrison Carsillo (Collingswood, NJ) scored 12 while junior Justin Chaney (Williamstown, NJ) tallied 11 for the Ravens.
Chaney, Carsillo and junior Tremell Green (Philadelphia, Pa.) each reeled in seven boards on the night.
The Ravens were scalding from the field, shooting field goals at a 47.2% rate (25-53).
For Lancaster Bible, Andrew Risser led the Chargers 1ith 11 points while Corey Leonard also hit double-figures, scoring 10. Scott Benjamin led all rebounders on the night with nine.
The Ravens return to action on Tuesday, 11/22 when they travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College for a 7:00pm game against the Griffins that will open up their conference play for the season.
