MENOMONIE (November 22, 2011) - UW-Stout pulled to within three points around the 12 minute mark of the second half, but Bemidji State ran off a 14-0 run over the next six minutes and went on to give the Blue Devils their first loss of the season, 70-57, Tuesday at Johnson Fieldhouse.
Trailing by 14 at halftime, 43-29, Stout (2-1) virtually shut down the Beavers (3-1) over the first six minutes of the half. The Blue Devils went off on an 11-2 run, fueled by six points by Jarvis Ragland (So, Milwaukee) to cut the lead to 45-40
Stout continued to chip away at the lead until Thomas Scholle-Malone (Jr, Milwaukee) hit a layup to get to within 48-45.
That would be it for the Blue devils over the next six minutes as the Beavers went on the decisive run of the evening. Mason Walters put in eight of his 12 points during the run.
The Beavers used the long ball to take the lead early in the game, banking in 7-of-11 3-pointers in the first half. They would not make a 3-pointer in the second half, canning 7-of-17 for the game.
The Stout defense played a big role in cooling off the Beavers' shooting overall. In the first half, Bemidji shot 61.5 percent (16-26), by hit only 41.4 percent (12-29) in the second half and finished shooting 50.9 percent.
Bemidji's Bryce Tesdahl led all scorers with 15 points. Lance Rongstad added 14 and Walters finished with 12.
Stout was led by Josh Kosloske (So, Oakfield) with 11 points and Steve Pax (So, Elmwood) finished with 10.
Turnovers were rare by the Blue Devils, who only committed four, while Bemidji had 10.
Stout will host the Quality Inn & Suites Turkey Shootout, Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27. Stout will meet Northland on Saturday at 7 p.m.
