DUBUQUE, Iowa - Zack Barragan hit the game-winner with 2 seconds left, Cornelius Mosby scored 18 points and Simpson came back from a 16-point, second half deficit in a 67-66 win over Loras on Wednesday.
Trailing 66-65 with nine seconds left, Simpson went to its leading scorer in the closing seconds. Barragan answered the call, finding just enough room on the baseline for a 15-footer that gave the Storm (9-10, 6-4 IIAC) their only lead of the game.
Tim Kelly scored a game-high 21 points for the Duhawks (6-13, 3-7 IIAC), who took a 77-69 win in the first meeting between the two teams.
For the second game in a row, Simpson got off to a slow start. Loras jumped out to an 18-6 lead in the first seven minutes and led by 16 with 10:17 to go in the game.
But Simpson went on a 27-10 run the rest of the way and held Loras scoreless over the final 2:40. Down 66-60 with 1:42 left, Elijah Knox got his only points of the game on a 3-pointer, pulling the Storm within three.
Mosby then single-handedly closed the gap to one. He blocked a layup attempt by Dan Pawelski - his fourth block of the game - before pulling down an offensive rebound off a miss on the ensuing possession. The junior completed the putback, setting the stage for Barragan's heroics.
Barragan finished with 10 points, scoring eight in the second half. John Cord registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, his third consecutive double-digit scoring effort. JJ Vanderheiden added 12 points and Knox dished out eight assists for the third time this season.
The Storm make another visit to Dubuque on Saturday when they take on the University of Dubuque in a 4 p.m. tipoff. The Spartans (12-6, 6-3 IIAC) have won five of their last six, but lost to Simpson 82-75 in the first meeting.
