The Valiants will have a new head men's basketball coach when they return to the Skyline Conference this fall. Chris Alesi replaces Pat Scanlon who took a high school job in Connecticut.
Manhattanville Director of Athletics Ed Manetta announced the hiring on Thursday via release.
"We are supremely excited to officially welcome Chris into the Valiant family," Manetta said in the release. "He is a local coach with deep ties to the Westchester area and the tristate region overall...Chris is thought of very highly in the basketball coaching circles and – having been around the game for his entire life and possessing a vast knowledge of the sport – will do a great job with our program."
Alesi split his college playing career between two schools near Manhattanville, spending the first two years at Division II Queens and the last two at Division III Baruch. He averaged 6.5 assists per game for the Bearcats as a senior.
Alesi played high school basketball for his father Jack at Xaverian High School and was later the school's assistant varsity basketball coach and head freshman coach. He has also been a head coach at the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) level in New York and New Jersey.
Alesi's brother John is currently the head coach at Baruch.
"Being a college head coach is the realization of a lifelong dream, and the opportunity to continue to build upon the excellent winning tradition established by Pat Scanlon and Ed Manetta is not one that I take lightly," said Chris Alesi in the release."
Scanlon stepped down from his position to accept the head coaching job at Greenwich Country Day School in Connecticut. He went 198-192 in 15 seasons with the Valiants including 11-14 last season.
