For the second consecutive off season, Macalester College selected a head coach from a distant Division III school to lead its women's basketball program. Katie Kollar replaces Pamela Findlay who resigned in April.

Macalester Director of Athletics Donnie Brooks announced the hiring via press release.

"We were fortunate to find Katie in such a strong pool of basketball coaches," Brooks said in the release. "Katie really made an imprint on the committee throughout the process. We're excited for her to bring a high level of energy, enthusiasm, work ethic and teaching/coaching ability to Macalester. In addition to her college coaching, recruiting and culture-building experience, we were equally impressed by Katie's focus on the holistic development of her student-athletes."

Kollar spent the past four seasons as the head coach at SUNY-Cobleskill in Upstate New York where she went 46-55. Her best season over that short tenure was 2016-17 when the Fighting Tigers went 14-12, 10-8 in conference. SUNY-Cobleskill finished 12-13, 6-10 last season.

Away from the basketball court, Kollar was the strength and conditioning coordinator for all of the College's sports. Kollar served on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Appointed Action Group, the Strategic Planning Committee and the Faculty Student Judicial Board.

Kollar previously was an assistant coach for two seasons at Springfield and an assistant for one season at Averett. Kollar played at Nazareth College where she was a captain every season but her first with the Golden Flyers. Kollar earned her bachelor's degree from Nazareth and her master's degree from Springfield.

She replaces Pamela Findlay who left her position as head coach at Lewis and Clark in Portland, Oregon to take over the Scots' program in June 2018. Findlay resigned in April to pursue a career outside of coaching.

Macalester went 6-19, 4-14 in the MIAC last season.
