The City College of New York (CCNY) filled its men's basketball head coaching vacancy, hiring former John Jay assistant Sean Clores to lead the Beavers' men's program.
CCNY Director of Athletics Lydia V. Travis announced Clores' hiring on Friday, June 21. Clores will also serve as the Director of Camps and Clinics.
"I am extremely excited to welcome Sean to our team," said Travis in the release. "His experience in contributing to success on the court, positively impacting culture and focusing on the total student-athlete experience makes him a great fit for our basketball program and department."
Clores joins the Beavers after most recently spending one season as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator at Division II St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC).
"I am grateful and excited to be the head basketball coach at The City College of New York," said Clores in the release."We are going to build a program that is going to develop our student-athletes off the court and prepare them for life after college. On the court, we are going to work extremely hard to meet our expectations of winning CUNYAC titles and consistently competing at the national level every year."
At STAC, he helped guide the program to an appearance in the East Coast Conference semifinals and a berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament, advancing to the Sweet 16. Finishing with one of the best seasons in program history, the team produced the 2019 ECC Rookie of the Year and a First-Team All-Conference player en route to a 25-7 overall record. The Spartans were ranked nationally throughout the season, reaching as high as 12th by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).
Prior to St. Thomas Aquinas, Clores spent three seasons at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, serving as an assistant coach for two seasons (2015-2017) before being promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2017-18 campaign.
