Otterbein stayed within the conference and the Columbus metro area for its next head men's basketball coach, naming Capital University assistant Andy Winters to the position.
Director of Athletics Dawn Stewart announced the hiring via the school's release.
"Andy is a proven winner," Stewart said. "He has made a significant impact every place that he has been and I'm excited for his leadership over our men's basketball program. We worked through a pool of more than 100 candidates. Andy has earned this opportunity and is a great fit for Otterbein."
Winters spent the last five seasons on Damon Goodwin's staff at OAC rival Capital and served as the Crusaders' interim head coach in 2015-16 when Goodwin was undergoing treatment for leukemia. Capital went 12-14, 8-10 in the conference that season.
Previous to that Winters spent one year as an assistant at Division II Ohio Dominican. Winters played point guard for four seasons at Ohio Wesleyan where he was a three-time all-conference selection, the 2013 Great Lakes Region Player of the Year and an All-American as a senior.
"You can always make strides and reach new levels in any profession, and I feel my next step is to progress as a head coach," Winters said in Otterbein's release. "I am ready to officially lead a program within a university and, more importantly, to lead young men in preparation for life. Our guys will be extremely tough and handle business the right way."
Winters replaces Brian Oilar who resigned after four seasons during which the Cardinals went 18-82. Otterbein finished 6-19, 3-15 in the OAC last season.
