Bowdoin assistant coach Scott Faucher will try to continue Nichols' recent run atop the Commonwealth Coast Conference in men's basketball. The College announced his hiring as the Bison's new head coach on Thursday, July 26.
"This applicant pool was the deepest one that I have experienced in three years at Nichols College and included candidates with experience at three NCAA divisions as well as several current head coaches," said Nichols Director of Athletics Chris Colvin. "Scott Faucher is the candidate that rose to the top of the pool at each stage of the process. He is an articulate and driven coach with a clear plan for keeping Nichols at the top of the Commonwealth Coast Conference and taking this program to the national stage."
Faucher will try to continue the Bison's success, which included CCC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances the last two seasons. Nichols set a new program record for victories with a 25-4 mark last season and made its first appearance in the D3hoops.com Top 25 in program history. Tom Glynn, who went 94-20 in four seasons at Nichols, took the head coaching job at Rhode Island College in June.
Faucher spent those same four years as an assistant under Tim Gilbride at Bowdoin College. Previously he was an assistant at Division II St. Michael's in his home state of Vermont. Faucher played four seasons at Wheaton (Mass.) and is the son of Dartmouth's former head coach Dave Faucher.
"I am extremely excited to join the Nichols athletic department as the new head men's basketball coach," said Faucher in Nichols' release. "From the moment I stepped on campus, it was clear that Nichols is an institution that is committed to excellence. I'm eager to get on campus and join the team as we work to add to the tradition of success that is Nichols College Athletics."
Nichols opens the 2018-19 season on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Fitchburg State.
