Shay Berry stepped down in his role as men's basketball coach and assistant athletic director for facilities and operations and on Monday, May 18, after four years in both positions.
Berry copmiled a record of 40-64, including going 24-37 in CUNYAC play. The Hawks were 9-17 this past season.
"Coach Berry will be missed," said athletic director Terry Wansart. "He left a positive imprint on Hunter College, from his contemporary recruiting strategies to the numerous facility upgrades and his mentoring of young adults."
In Berry's four years on the bench for the Hawks he guided the Hawks to the CUNYAC tournament each year, including a trip to the semifinals during the 2013-14 season. During his third season, Berry coached CUNYAC first team all-star Frankie Drayton and this past season, the Hawks ranked 11th in free-throw percentage in NCAA Division III.
"(Shay) was an integral part of our athletic administrative team and basketball program," said Wansart. "His professionalism, hard work ethic and humor was valued throughout the program. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."
