No. 3 Marietta picked up its first loss of the season and top-ranked UW-Whitewater saw its 13-game winning streak snapped as both lost road games to the second-place teams in their conferences. Marietta lost 102-92 at Mount Union, while UW-Whitewater fell 72-69 at UW-Stevens Point. In all, four Top 10 teams lost on yet another wacky Wednesday in Division III men's basketball.

Kyle Scelza scored a career-high 20 points off the bench, making six of his nine attempts from 3-point range to lead Mount Union (17-5, 13-2 OAC). Nate Jacubec and Cody Dillon combined to make nine more 3-pointers. Jacubec finished the game with 19 points and Dillon was right behind with 18 points.
Marietta (21-1, 14-1) was led by RaNeal Ewing with 23 points and Garrett Stephenson with 21 points. The Pioneers were the last unbeaten team in Division III men's basketball.
Quardell Young couldn't save the Warhawks on this night, as his 3-point attempt in the closing seconds missed. It would have allowed Whitewater to tie the game. The Warhawks had cut the lead to three with a pair of free throws, then survived to get a shot to tie when the Pointers missed the front end of a one-and-one. UW-Stevens Point improved to 19-4, 13-1 WIAC.
Fifth-ranked Virginia Wesleyan fell as well on Wednesday as Eastern Mennonite held the Marlins to just 33 percent shooting in an 87-75 loss. James Williams went 13-for-13 from the free throw line en route to a career-high 27 points. The Royals improve to 15-7 on the year and 8-5 in the ODAC. The second-place Marlins fall to 18-4 and 10-3. This is their first loss to an unranked team.
McDaniel overcame 29 points from Gerry Wixted and 24 from Brandon Angradi to defeat No. 9 Dickinson 78-73. Andrew Merlo countered with 25 points for McDaniel, who shot 9-for-14 from beyond the arc to improve to 14-8, 9-6 in the Centennial.
After nearly knocking off Richard Stockton the first time through the schedule, New Jersey City got the Ospreys this time around, defeating No. 19 Stockton 70-65. NJCU used a smothering press defense to frustrate the Ospreys. The Gothic Knights have won seven of their past nine games.
No. 22 William Paterson rallied late but could not come up with the game winner during the waning seconds, falling 66-65 at Kean. Because of the recent east coast weather, William Paterson was playing its third game in five days, and it showed as the Cougars roared out to a 13-2 lead and led by as many as 14 in the first half.
No. 4 Randolph-Macon wrapped up the ODAC regular-season title behind 20 points from Mike Silverthorn and 14 assists from Marcus Badger in a 79-65 win vs. archrival Hampden-Sydney. The game was played in front of a sellout crowd as the Yellow Jackets improved to 20-2, 13-0 in the ODAC.
John Wickey and Joey Flannery each scored 19 points, and No. 8 Babson shot 63.6 percent to pull away from visiting Springfield 76-57. The Beavers are 20-2 for the first time in program history, 10-1 in the NEWMAC.
No. 11 Augustana cruised past No. 24 Illinois Wesleyan 82-56 on the road on Saturday night, moving back into a tie for first with the Titans at 9-3 in the CCIW. Elmhurst is one game back in the conference standings, at 8-4, after easily handling North Park.
All five starters hit double figures as Catholic's starters accounted for 97 points in a 100-85 win at Goucher. Kyle Phanord had 28 points for the 16th-ranked Cardinals, while Bryson Fonville scored 13 and added 15 assists in the win.
Claude Gray hit two free throws with 10 seconds left, sandwiched around a Wabash time out, to lift No. 23 Ohio Wesleyan to an 81-80 win. Gray finished with 22 points, while Nate Axelrod had a game-high 24.
There doesn't seem to be a recognized record for triple-doubles in a season in Division III, but Aaron Walton-Moss is going to force the NCAA's hand on this one as the Cabrini guard recorded his seventh this season with 30 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a 104-84 home win vs. Marywood. The Cavaliers (14-9, 11-5 CSAC) shot 62 percent from the floor.
Misericordia's Jamie Egan hit a game-tying 3-pointer with 1.1 seconds left in regulation and the Cougars outscored visiting Delaware Valley, 17-8, in overtime for the 72-63 win. Steve Ware scored a game-high 27 points and added 12 rebounds in the win, lifting Misericordia to 17-5, 9-2 and sole possession of first place in the Freedom Conference.
UW-Stout cut a 20-point lead down to three with five seconds to go but Grant Erickson hit one of two free throws to seal the deal and give the Falcons a 77-73 win over the Blue Devils. UW-Stout is winless in the WIAC and has lost 15 consecutive games overall.
The last 2:37 of the game was decided at the foul line as John Carroll hit enough free throws to hold off Baldwin Wallace 108-106 in overtime. ... TJ Booth put back the third chance for Rowan with four-tenths of a second remaining to lift the Profs 80-78 at Montclair State. ... Two 20-plus point efforts from sophomore guards Kamahl Walker and Max Motroni helped Endicott hand Nichols its first CCC loss of the season, 85-80. ... Southern Vermont won the NECC regular season crown for the first time, defeating Becker 72-55. The Mountaineers swept the season series for their first two wins all-time vs. the Hawks.
