With eight minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of Global Sports Academy's second game of a five-game European tour, the unthinkable happened. Everything stopped. The officials were puzzled. The fans were amazed at what they saw. Widener's Jack Brennan literally tore down the basket.
Off a 60-foot pass from point guard Andrew Radomicki, Brennan's Widener teammate, Brennan sprinted past the entire USK Praha team, caught the pass, and hammered home a dunk that will be talked about for years to come. The basket began falling to the ground, and as one USK Praha player tried to hold it up, he thought better of it, got out of the way, and watched with the rest of the crowd in amazement as the rim crashed to the floor and bent. After 15 minutes of uncertainty and a few attempts to fix the basket, the game was called and GSA was declared the winner, 81-55.
Before the theatrics to end the game, the GSA team turned a 21-21 tie at the end of the first quarter into a 24-point halftime lead and never looked back. The team was led by Brennan, King's Kyle Hammonds, who scored 18 points in the second and third quarters, and Dan Comas (D-II Chestnut Hill), who recorded his second international double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The team is now 2-0 on the trip. Cabrini's Fran Rafferty scored 23 points to help the team, comprised primarily of Division III players, defeat Vilsbiburg, of Germany, 87-86 in the first game of the tour.
