Three teams ranked in the women's Top 10 lost, and a fourth nearly did on Wednesday night.  For Mount Union and Carthage, it was their first loss of the season.

Calvin used solid defense and sharp three-point shooting to upend No. 5 Carthage 69-59.  The Knights, who were ranked No. 24 in the preseason, held the Lady Reds to 23 points in the first half.  Calvin shot 50 percent (13-of-26) from three for the game.

John Carroll evened its OAC record in surprising fashion by upsetting No. 7 Mount Union in Alliance 84-82.  Lee Jennings hit a lay up with three seconds left and the Blue Streaks survived a potential game winning shot by Mount Union.  Jennings and Emillee Ritchie scored 26 points a piece for John Carroll.  Brittany Kilgore scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Purple Raiders who slip to 7-1, 1-1 in conference.

Millikin is 3-3 on the season, but the Big Blue are 2-0 against ranked Division III opponents after beating No. 10 DePauw 65-59.  Elise Wildman had 22 points and seven rebounds for Millikin.  Juniata knocked off previously unbeaten No. 19 St. Vincent 86-71.

No. 4 DePauw rallied against DeSales to send their game to overtime where the Cougars prevailed 69-65.  No. 18 UW-Stevens Point climbed atop the WIAC standings by beating No. 15 UW-Whitewater 83-69.  Britta Peterson had another big night for the Pointers with 24 points on 10-for-13 shooting.  Maranda Dohrm's three pointer gave UW-River Falls a 65-64 lead on UW-Eau Claire with 85 seconds left.  Neither team scored again the Falcons took home the victory.

Men's action

How's this for a dramatic entrance as the top ranked men's team in the country?  Ian Franks drained a three pointer at the buzzer to lift No. 1 Wooster over Allegheny 76-73.  Franks' shot followed a three by the Gators' Devone McLeod that tied the game with five seconds left.

The team the Scots replaced as No. 1, UW-Stevens Point, picked up a big early win in conference play.  The fourth-ranked Pointers defeated UW-Whitewater 72-61 at home. No. 18 UW-River Falls cruised past UW-Eau Claire 75-51.  The Falcons' bench outscored the Blugolds' 35 to eight.

No. 6 St. Norbert suffered a six minute field goal drought in the second half and suffered its first loss of the season at Beloit, 62-50.  The Buccaneers, who improved to 2-4, were paced by David Bremner's 21 points.  No. 14 St. Mary's (Md.) defeated York (Pa.) 81-77 in overtime to pick up its 24th straight regular season win at home.

A couple teams who have started this season surprisingly hot stayed that way.  Randoph beat Hampden-Sydney 74-57 to stay unbeaten in the ODAC.  Mount St. Vincent is 9-0 after topping Albertus Magnus 88-85.

Haverford outlasted Ursinus 108-103 in overtime in a game where the ten starters scored 190 points.  Matt Hilton had 40 points in a losing effort for the Bears.  Chris Petzy's three-pointer with five seconds left in overtime pushed St. Joseph's (Maine) into double-overtime against Johnson and Wales where the Monks won 84-80.  Cashton Craig was money for Edgewood against Lakeland, hitting the game winner with 1.3 seconds left in the Eagles' 63-61 victory.  You can see Craig's shot here.
