Women's hoops prepares for APU Classic

WHAT'S HAPPENING:
The Point Loma women's basketball team will step out of conference play again this week when it goes to Azusa, Calif., to play in the Azusa Pacific Classic, Dec. 18-19. The Sea Lions will open with Cal Poly Pomona on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. PLNU will then take on George Fox at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday to close out the tournament.

FOLLOW ALONG:
Live stats and live video will both be available for all games in the tournament. Both PLNU games can be accessed through the Sea Lions' website at www.plnusealions.com and clicking on the corresponding link on the right side of the page. Live stats and video will also be available through http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/apu.portal#. Live stats are free while the video is on a pay-per-view basis.

A LOOK AT THE SEA LIONS:
The Sea Lions are 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the Pacific West Conference. PLNU is coming off an 80-63 loss at Dixie State. Callie Rhoads scored 19 points to lead Point Loma. Savannah Erskine also put up 18 points, including five 3-pointers. Andrea Campbell had a career night by putting up a double-double with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

As a team, Point Loma is holding opponents to 57.0 points per game and 32 percent shooting. PLNU is also averaging 6.5 blocks per game. Carlotta Kloppenburg is Point Loma's top outside shooter. She is hitting 37 percent of her shots from long range and averaging 12.4 points per game. Campbell paces the team in both blocks (2.8) and rebounds (7.7).  Savannah Erskine leads PLNU in assists (4.1) and steals (2.3).

SCOUTNG CAL POLY POMONA:
The Broncos are 2-3 on the season and 1-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. JJ Judge leads four CPP student-athletes in double-figures with 12.8 ppg. She is also averaging 7.8 rebounds and is shooting 94.7 percent from the charity stripe. Ashley Boggs paces the team in rebounds with 8.8 per game, and is also averaging 10.6 points. As a team, Cal Poly Pomona scoring 66.2 points per game and shooting 38 percent from the field. The Broncos are forcing their opponent into 23.2 turnovers per game.

SCOUTNG GEORGE FOX:
The Bruins have won five straight games to improve to 5-2 on the season. Their last two wins have come by a combined five points as they edged Warner Pacific, 63-62, and then slipped by Concordia (Ore.), 70-66. Hannah Munger leads the team with 14.0 ppg. She is connecting on 72.4 percent of her shots from the field and averages 4.0 blocks per game. Jami Roos and Megan Arnoldy are also scoring double-figures for GFU with 13.3 and 11.2 ppg, respectively. Arnoldy is the team's leading rebounder with 7.7 boards per game. As a team, George Fox is averaging 63.9 ppg and outrebounding its opponents by 7.3 per game. GFU is making 45 percent of its shots from the field.

NEXT GAMES:
These will be the Sea Lions' last games before entering the Christmas holidays. PLNU next game will be Jan. 2 when it travels to Fresno Pacific for a PacWest Conference showdown.
