LAS VEGAS -- Whitworth's Ben College drained a 3-pointer to tie the game with 30.3 seconds to go and teammate Jordan Lester went the length of the floor for the game-winning layup with 1.2 ticks left to lift the No. 9-ranked Pirates past Johns Hopkins 76-74 at the ninth annual D3hoops.com Classic.

In a game that featured 13 ties and 14 lead changes, even the desperation heave nearly fell, as Michael Gardner took the inbounds pass and got off a great look just shy of mid-court, but his shot hit the rim and bounced away as time expired.
Kyle Roach scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. He was the team's leader in both categories and the rebound total is a career-high. Joey Kern scored 23 for Johns Hopkins (8-4), including 5-for-11 shooting from 3-point range.
In the day's women's basketball action, Carthage surged past No. 18 Gettysburg in the fourth quarter and defeated the Bullets 68-62, ending the Bullets' eight-game winning streak. Bailey Gilbert scored 12 points in the fourth quarter alone for Carthage, as the Lady Reds (7-5) battled back from an eight-point deficit for the win. Gilbert finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and five assists, while Rachel Szydlowski led all scorers with 18 points and added 11 rebounds in the win. Meredith Brown and Emma Dorshimer led Gettysburg (8-2) with 17 points apiece.
Maddie Eck took up the mantle of top scorer for Amherst on Saturday as she led all scorers with 20 points in a 59-41 win vs. UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers (4-7) jumped out to a 8-2 lead, but the Mammoths answered with a 29-3 run to push out to a 20-point lead. Cam Hendricks and Maeve McNamara added 11 apiece, while Hannah Fox scored nine for Amherst (8-1). Bailee Collins led UWSP with 13 points.
Kashaun Barnes scored a season-high 36 points, shooting 5-for-7 from the 3-point line, but it was Linfield which hit 16 from beyond the arc, defeating Ramapo 83-65 in the final game of the night. Grant Gibb led the Wildcats (9-2) with 19 points, shooting 5-for-12 from 3-point range, while Riley Bruil added 15 on 5-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc and Dempsey Roggenbuck added 15 as well.
Emory & Henry led for just 6 minutes, 44 seconds, but had the lead at the right time as the Wasps rallied from a 15-point deficit to defeat Edgewood 72-64. Tharon Suggs had a game-high 24 points, whilie Jarris Hendricks added 13 points and Alic Wynn scored 10 with 13 rebounds for E&H (9-3). Edgewood, which lost both of its games in Las Vegas, fell to 3-8 and was led by 18 points on 9-for-17 shooting.
Buena Vista shot 31-for-54 from the floor, including 26-for-43 from inside the arc as the Beavers improved to 5-7 with an 82-76 win against Westfield State. Holly Schneider finished with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Morgan Muhlbauer had her third double-double of the year, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 boards. The Owls (4-7) got 12 points and 12 rebounds from Lucy Barrett, while Melissa Gray added 12 points as well.
One game remains at the D3hoops.com Classic, with Whitworth facing Emory & Henry at 4 p.m. PT on Sunday.
