Team of the Week

The Team of the Week presented by Scoutware is D3hoops.com's weekly honor roll, in its 20th season of recognizing the top performance at each of the five positions from the previous week.

Women's

Katie McDaniels

On Tuesday McDaniels scored 19 points with five assists and three steals in a win against Illinois Wesleyan to give Wheaton outright possession of the 2017 CCIW Championship.  She made 10 field goals, scoring 24 points, with four steals and five assists against Augustana in the CCIW Tournament semifinal, becoming Wheaton's career assists leader with 469. McDaniels scored a team-high 14 points with four assists in the CCIW Tournament Championship Game against Illinois Wesleyan to give Wheaton its third-straight CCIW Tournament title.

Giovanna Pickering

Pickering averaged 29.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 57.1 percent on her way to earning NEWMAC Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors and helping the Beavers earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament. She scored a career-high 35 points in an 83-59 semifinal victory over Smith and then finished with 24 points, five boards and two assists in Sunday's 65-46 win over WPI in the tournament final. 

Kaitlyn Astel

Astel had a strong week to close out her 2017 season, averaging 19.5 points and shooting 55.2 % from the field as Stevens reached the Empire 8 Conference Championship Game for the second year in a row. In addition to her scoring ability, Astel totaled 14 rebounds, seven assists, one steal and one block. The graduate student was also named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year earlier in the week, becoming the first three-time winner in conference history.

Alicia Brown

Brown scored a career-high 33points in the CCC semifinal against Eastern Nazarene and 21 points, on 8-14 shooting in the final over Western New England to secure an NCAA Tournament berth.  She averaged 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 blocks on the week.

Lisa Murphy

We might as well call this the Lisa Murphy Memorial Team of the Week.  The NCAA all-time career field goal percentage leader played her last UAA game againt Case Western Reserve this week, scoring 34 points with 24 rebounds in a come from behind victory. While CMU missed the NCAA Tournament, Murphy's career will continue as the top seed in ECAC play.

Men's

Ty Sabin

Sabin led Ripon to its first NCAA Tournament berth in 15 years with a win in Saturday's MWC Championship game. In Friday's MWC semifinal against Cornell, Sabin scored 50 points on 19-29 shooting (8-12 from 3-point range), including the game-winning 3-pointer with one second remaining. That marked his third career 50-point game, and second this season. During Saturday's Championship game, Sabin broke Ripon's school record record for career 3-pointers with 280. Also during Saturday's Championship game, Sabin surpassed 2,500 career points.

Deshon Burgess

Burgess was the MVP of the Liberty League tournament and led the Dutchmen to their first league title and NCAA appearance since 2004-05. He scored 33 points with 5 assists and 5 rebounds and was 12 of 13 at the line in the title win over Hobart. Union trailed by six at 64-58 with 4:22 left and Burgess then scored the final 13 points for Union including a three pointer with 16 seconds left to erase a 67-66 deficit. Burgess scored 34 points, tying his career high, with 8 rebounds and 4 assists at St. Lawrence, and hit the game-winning three pointer with 0.9 left in the second OT to win the semifinal game, 110-108.

Romario Fletcher

Fletcher averaged 22.0 points, 15.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game leading the Roos to the American College Athletic Association Championship. The senior was named the Most Valuable Player after shooting 50 percent from the field and averaging a double-double. He opened the weekend with 20 points, 15 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal as Canton overcame a 21 point second halftime deficit to beat Alfred State. He followed that up with a game-high 24 points, 16 rebounds and two assists in an 84-71 win v. Pine Manor College. 

Thomas Bonacum

Bonacum shot 54% from the field and averaged 18 points and 9.5 rebounds per game as Ramapo sealed the NJAC tournament title on Bonacum's buzzer-beating halfcourt shot that you might have seen on Sportscenter.

Dan Fanelly

Fanelly led Wooster to its league-leading 16th NCAC Tournament title and earned the Al Van Wie Award as the tournament's MVP. He broke Wooster's NCAC Tournament record for points in a game with 32 in the semifinals against Denison, and then bettered that with 34 points in the championship game against Ohio Wesleyan, two of which came at the free throw line with :09.2 remaining to extend Wooster's lead out to two possessions. Fanelly shot 60% from the field and 80% from the FT line on the week.
